What this screening can — and can’t — tell you

A screening questionnaire looks for patterns: differences in social communication, play, routines, and sensory responses that show up more often in autistic children. If enough patterns are present, the screener flags that a professional evaluation makes sense. That is all any screener can do, including well-known clinical tools like the M-CHAT. Screening tools deliberately over-identify, because their job is to make sure no child who needs an evaluation gets missed.

What no online questionnaire can do is diagnose autism. A diagnosis requires a licensed psychologist, a structured evaluation, your child’s developmental history, and clinical judgment. If anyone offers you a “diagnosis” from a web quiz, close the tab.

What happens with your answers

When you submit your results, your responses and your score are saved to our system so that a member of our team can follow up with you about next steps. What happens after the screening?

If your result suggests an evaluation is worth pursuing, here is what an evaluation with AT4K would look like:

• Parent questionnaires and intake. We begin with parent questionnaires and an intake assessment with you: your concerns, your child’s developmental history, and what to expect.
• Video review. You upload short videos of your child at home, and your psychologist reviews them before the evaluation.
• The evaluation. A licensed psychologist evaluates your child by secure video, using assessment activities designed for telehealth and standardized measurements accepted by insurance for therapy services.
• Diagnosis and report. We meet with you to discuss the outcome and deliver a customized, comprehensive diagnostic report you can use with ABA providers, schools, and insurers.

The virtual evaluation at AT4K is a $1,500 flat fee, which includes an intake assessment with parent/guardian, review of parent uploaded video of child, a virtual evaluation of your child, and a customized, comprehensive diagnostic report. All completed in less than 30 days.

Why do evaluations take so long everywhere else?

Two reasons. Hospital programs and general psychology practices assess dozens of different conditions, so autism competes for calendar space with everything else they do. And even once the evaluation happens, the written report often takes weeks more to finish. Autism assessment is the only thing AT4K does, and the report is part of the process rather than an afterthought.

Why act on a screening result early?

Because every support that helps autistic children, from early intervention and ABA to speech and occupational therapy and support at school, is gated behind a diagnostic evaluation, and most are more effective the earlier they begin. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends autism-specific screening for all children at 18 and 24 months precisely because early identification changes outcomes.
